Urban Rider is free to start on iOS and Android. The two apps are built separately and carry their own version numbers, so an iOS release and an Android release with the same feature will not share a number. Each entry below says which platform it belongs to.
iOS 4.20.2
Bike types
The bike profile now asks what kind of bike you are on, and the routing changes with the answer:
- City: smooth roads and cycle paths, for everyday trips.
- Road: fast tarmac, skipping cycle paths and rough surfaces.
- Mountain: seeks out tracks, trails and gravel, and takes on the climbs.
If you have read the free bike route planner guide or the cargo bike piece, this is the setting those articles were reaching for: one profile could not sensibly serve a road bike and a gravel bike at the same time.
Better routing on hills
Hilly terrain used to send you the long way around a short steep stretch. It no longer does. Hill tolerance stays a separate control, so you can still tell the router how much climbing you are willing to accept.
Android
The Android app has its own release train and its own version numbers. Its current release notes are on the Google Play listing under “What's new”, and Android releases will be listed here alongside the iOS ones from the next one onward.
