What is Urban Rider?
A navigation app built for scooters, mopeds, motorcycles and bikes. You pick the vehicle, and the route respects what that vehicle may legally and safely ride.
Why does it avoid motorways and tunnels?
Because a 25 or 45 km/h vehicle is banned from them in most of Europe. A car app does not know that, so it routes you onto roads you are not allowed on.
Does it work for motorcycles?
Yes. Pick the motorcycle profile and the faster roads come back, with controls to fine-tune from there.
What about microcars like the Citroen Ami or Microlino?
Yes, and there is now a dedicated microcar profile for them, in beta. A 45 km/h light quadricycle such as a Citroen Ami, Fiat Topolino or Opel Rocks-e is kept off motorways, expressways and cycle paths, with arrival times at the real 45 km/h speed. A quicker 80 to 90 km/h quadricycle like a full-speed Microlino or Silence S04 fits the motorcycle profile instead. Full detail on the microcar page.
Can I plan more than one stop?
Yes. Chain several stops into a single ride rather than restarting navigation at each one.
Does it warn about speed cameras?
Yes, for fixed speed cameras along your route, worldwide. It is one of the ride-behaviour settings.
What does it cost?
Free to download, and no account is needed to plan your first ride. You get a 7-day free trial of the full app on both iOS and Android. After the trial you need a subscription to keep using it, available monthly, yearly or lifetime. Current prices for your country are shown in the App Store and on Google Play. One speeding ticket costs more than a year of it.
A note from the maker
Two wheels deserve better navigation.
Urban Rider started as a personal frustration. I ride a moped in Berlin, and every map app kept routing me onto roads I am not allowed on, with arrival times only a car could ever hit. Fighting the settings before every trip is not navigation.
So I built the app I wanted: one that asks what you ride before it decides where you go. Pick the vehicle, and the route respects what that vehicle may legally and safely use, with a time that reflects the speed you actually travel.
It is still one rider writing it. That means every message to support@urbanrider.app reaches me directly, and the good suggestions end up in the app rather than in a queue.
